Position of Technician in Geocomputation, GIS and Remote Sensing
Department of Landscape Ecology
The Silva Tarouca Research Institute for Landscape and Ornamental Gardening
Workplace: Brno, Czech Republic
Contractual relationship: Full-time employment contract for a fixed period
Term: 2 years with start by January 1rst, 2025 (or by agreement).
Location: Lidická Street, Brno, Czech Republic
Salary: Salary according to the valid wage regulation of our organization.
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. in relevant Science and Engineering fields (including but not limited to Earth Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Geography, Remote Sensing, Landscape Ecology, Agriculture or Forestry, Soil Science) with demonstrated prior experience in remote sensing geostatistics/geocomputation and/or pedometrics data processing;
- Collaborative skills;
- Good oral and written communication skills in English are expected;
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for geodata processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning;
- Proficiency in using software and tools for geocomputation and/or pedometrics, primarily open-source software such as GDAL, GRASS, QGIS;
- Experience with cloud computing/API infrastructure (Google Earth Engine, OpenGeo etc.)
- Experience in data statistical processing;
- Experience with international projects.
Advantages:
- Ph.D. in relevant Science and Engineering fields;
- Speak/write any other language next to English (Spanish/French/German/Czech);
- Research experience in landscape ecology / remote sensing / pedometrics;
- Familiar with Linux-based open-source platforms suchplatforms such as OSGeoLive, knowledge of BASH, AWK, CDO to engage with large datasets in high-performance computing environment under Linux-based platforms;
- Experience with High Performance Computing systems (CESNET etc.)
- Pilot license for drone.
Key tasks and requirements:
- Provide full technical support in (geo)computing and data processing for researchers in landscape ecology and soil science, including Machine Learning and Deep Learning modelling techniques;
- Operate drone flights and drone data (pre)processing;
- Expected to conduct independent;
- Collaboration at the international level;
- Ability to travel (both domestic and foreign trips).
- Contribution to publication writing.
